🏠New Committee Opportunity: Help Shape Housing in Los Altos HillsđźŹ
The Town of Los Altos Hills is excited to announce the formation of a brand new Housing Element Implementation Committee, and we’re looking for community members to get involved!
This newly established committee will play an important role in helping guide how the Town implements its State-mandated Housing Element and plans for future housing needs. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a committee from the ground up and help shape the conversation around housing in Los Altos Hills.
The Committee will:
• Review and provide input on Housing Element programs and policies
• Help identify opportunities for improvement and refinement
• Explore strategies to minimize impacts on Town character, safety, and traffic
• Evaluate housing sites, zoning, and development standards
• Participate in regional housing discussions and planning efforts
• Support community engagement and encourage public participation
• Provide recommendations to the Planning Commission

The Town of Los Altos Hills City Council invites applications from interested residents to fill two (2) positions on the Planning Commission for upcoming expiring terms. If you are interested in shaping the future of our community through land use, housing policy, and development standards, this is a great opportunity to serve.

🏛️ About the Planning Commission
The Planning Commission serves as a critical advisory and decision-making body on land use, planning, and development matters in Los Altos Hills. Commissioners help ensure that development projects and policy decisions align with the Town’s General Plan, Municipal Code, and state law.

Core Duties and Responsibilities Include:
• Serving as an advisory body to the City Council on planning and development issues
• Implementing the General Plan by reviewing development applications on a case-by-case basis
• Acting as the decision-making authority for many land use and development proposals
• Reviewing and conducting public hearings on zoning, subdivisions, site development, and policy updates
• Participating in study sessions, public hearings, and occasional joint meetings with the City Council

🏠What Types of Matters Are Reviewed?
Planning Commissioners may review:
• New home and site development applications
• Conditional Use Permits (such as wireless facilities)
• Zoning and subdivision maps
• General Plan and Municipal Code amendments
• Housing Element implementation and Objective Design Standards
• Special studies, climate initiatives, and state housing law updates
👥 Commission Structure & Time Commitment
• Five (5) members, appointed by the City Council
• Meetings: Typically once a month on the 1st Thursday
• Meetings are held in Council Chambers (or virtually, as needed)
